Reflecting on Individual Professional Practice with Gibbs.
This piece of essay will incorporate Gibb's reflective cycle throughout the essay. At the end of the essay, I will intend my actions in future nursing practice. In weeks 5,6 and 7, we discussed about person centred care (PCC), clinical reasoning Cycle (CRC) and Roper-Logan-Tierney (RLT) model of nursing.
Supporting reflective practice and writing reflective commentaries As a practitioner it is not only important that you are able to learn the theory and skills involved in your work, but that you are able to reflect on how well you are developing these skills.
There are quite a few models of reflection and techniques. There johns (2000) model for structured reflection, Rolfe et al (2001) a framework for reflexive practice and Kolb (1984) to name a few. But because this is my first time to write a reflective essay, after some thought I have chosen to use Gibbs reflective Cycle (1988).
Essay Summary of Reflective Essay The main objective of any academic course is to ensure that the learners gain vital information that aims at enhancing their knowledge while at the same time promoting their judge mental and decision makes skills.This course has faired pretty well in as improving my judgmental skills.
This reflective essay is based upon my experience working alongside the Infection Prevention and Control Support Nurses at the general hospital. As part of my learning experience as a 2nd year student nurse is to accompany the infection control nurses when visiting the wards The role of the IPCSN involved teaching, educating and advising all disciplines across the Trust, monitoring outbreaks.
Since most models of reflection require subjective and objective thinking then there is a willingness to be honest to engage constant self appraisal. It asks that the teacher become flexible analytical and socially aware when addressing their chosen model of reflection. The two reflective models I have chosen to compare are Gibbs and Rolfe.
This essay will use Gibbs’ reflective cycle (Gibbs, 1988) updated by Bulman and Schutz (2013) (Appendix 1) as a framework for reflecting on a challenging situation I experienced whilst on placement, involving a patient with dementia.
